A Life Almost Lost in the Heat

He didn’t have a name—until now.
This little pup, now called Billion, was found collapsed on the sidewalk in the blistering heat of Mandalay, too weak to move. The air was heavy—over 100°F—and the city was still reeling from the earthquake. Billion should’ve been invisible, like so many others who don’t survive days like that.
But someone noticed.
A kind woman who owns a small pet shop in Mandalay saw him and rushed him to our free clinic—set up in the aftermath of the disaster to provide emergency medical help to animals with nowhere else to go. When he arrived, it was clear he was barely hanging on. Pale gums, severe dehydration, a massive tick and flea burden, and a blood infection so serious that his life was slipping away by the minute.
He needed a blood transfusion—and fast.
That’s when Yoke Soe, a handsome and obedient dog owned by the same rescuer, became a hero in his own right. Despite his name meaning “Ugly Guy” in Burmese, Yoke Soe quietly and bravely donated his blood, saving Billion’s life without a fuss.
Our team worked quickly—administering fluids, antibiotics, and the transfusion. It was touch-and-go, but thanks to your support, to a compassionate rescuer, and to one very good dog, Billion pulled through.
Now he has a name, a home, and a second chance at life.
Not every story from Mandalay has a happy ending—but this one does, because you were part of it.
Thank you for helping us save lives like Billion’s.
