Our Work in Yangon

Yangon is Myanmar's largest city, home to more than seven million people and an estimated 350,000 free-roaming dogs.

Street dogs live throughout the city, especially around schools, hospitals, universities, train stations, markets, monasteries, and low-income housing areas.

After years of community requests, members of our local team launched the Yangon TNVR program in June 2024, with major support from Animals Australia.

We began by treating approximately 50 dogs per month and quickly scaled to 250 to 300 dogs per month. Today, Yangon is one of our fastest-growing and most impactful programs.

Our Approach

Project sites are selected based on dog density, proximity to people, bite risk, and community requests. We work closely with local feeders, volunteers, monks, shop owners, and community leaders.

Dogs in Yangon receive the same comprehensive care as in Mandalay, including safe anesthesia, sterile surgery, preventive medicine, Bravecto treatment, and supervised recovery.

Medical Care Beyond TNVR

TVT (transmissible venereal tumor) is a contagious, sexually transmitted cancer common among street dog populations in Asia. Left untreated, it causes painful, disfiguring tumors and is often fatal.

TVT cases in Yangon are treated after surgical healing and monitored until full recovery.
